ACC97.Tame Patch

 

* Issue

This patch reduces the problems, coming along with the behaviour of Access 97, described in the Microsoft Knowledge base Article Q160819.

Microsoft Access 97 polls its message queues for activity for about the first 30 seconds of idle time. During this time, the application uses 100 percent of CPU resources. Although Microsoft Access only uses CPU resources that are idle, it becomes a problem concerning energy consumption (especially with notebooks) and CPU cooling.

The Acc97.Tame patch reduces the CPU usage of Access 97 dramatically. This benefit comes along with only a little loss of performance.

 

* Installation

Execute the file ACC97TAM.EXE. You will be asked for the installation path of Access 97. The setup routine copies the file ACC97TAM.DLL into the Office directory, which is located in the installation path of Access 97. Furthermore the file msaccess.exe will be patched. The setup routine only patches this file, if its version is 8.0.0.5903 (Service Pack 2b). All languages are supported.

Windows Scripting Host (for the installation routine)
